A strong earthquake Measuring 7.2 on the Richter scale has Struck south of the Mariana Islands region in the South Pacific, the U.S. Geological Surveyreported Friday.
According to the USGS, the Quake Struck at a depth of 2.9 miles at 2:20 pm. Pacific time, With its epicenter located some 200 miles southwest of Guam.
Though such "strong Earthquakes are Capable of causing widespread destruction along the coasts near Their epicenters, U.S. Pacific Tsunami Warning Center Said Friday's Quake Does not Pose Any Threat destructive tsunami.
There were no reports of injuries Immediate or Damages in the quake, the wakes of Tremors were felt Not in Saipan - the largest island in the Northern Mariana Islands chain.
The Mariana Islands is an archipelago in the north western Pacific Ocean. It is made up of two of U.S. Territories, namely Guam and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Island.
