Review – Melissa & Joey: Moving On (S01E02)

After viewing the hideousness that was in Big Lake, the second outing of ABC's new comedy, Melissa & Joey was like a breath of fresh air by Comparison.

Yes, Melissa & Joey is formulaic - Upper Hand, Who's The Boss, yada yada - and clichéd, but their CONFETTI I Raised a smile as opposed Thurs During grimace grimace on Big Lake.

Even though me and Viewers Good to see the jokes coming a mile off, at least that many They are in fact-jokes, and Delivered by Ken Actors not have a Scrap of comedic Timing. But Enough of my ranting is about Big Lake, and onto What happened in this episode ...

Joey is of course the 'manny' since Melissa decided NOT TO bother hiring a real professional nanny, and it's a Role That Joey Lawrence sits in a well. He does not have an on-screen real empathy with the teenagers who're in Melissa's care, And that certainly gives him a more rounded character.

And apropos of the kids, I'm really liking Ryder Scanlon as Nick. For one so young, who's very convincing and totally likeable. I see good things in the future at his stays is if they track.

I'm not as down with Taylor Spreitler as Lennox, Nick's sister, Planet I think that's Probably Not Spreitler's fault. She's Been Given lines That an adult thinks a teenager'd say, and though teenagers Might well, they're just a bit too hackneyed Thurs Entirely work.

But do not confirm the substance of Melissa & Joey Is One That Makes for comfortable, non-Challenging viewing, and it does Indeed Given Provida the odd chortle, then it's worth keeping around.

And the storylines do not insult the Viewers' intelligence either, wakes I also like about this show. This week, the main focus Josh was recovering at his possessions from ex-wife Tiffany, and a Metaphor was made of at his wide-screen TV ...

Melissa Did not want it in her living room - Being ostentatious and, well, large - vain Joey and Nick did. So a subtext Power Struggle Took place, with Joey winning out Because the TV was firmly placed in the living room.

There's a grief to Be hmmmm plenty of more metaphors, and I'm grieving That'll end up Melissa and Joey fall in love, and there'll be much angst about it Given Their Roles - boss and employee - and many misunderstandings, but their that's ok ...

Because When You Just Want To turn off your brain and be entertained, it doesn't really Matter That it's uber predictable.
