Mennonite Relief Sale Continues Today at Pavilion

The aroma of sizzling sausage and Buttery Kettle Corn wafted through the air on Friday afternoon DURING the annual Oklahoma Mennonite Relief Sale at Chisholm Trail Pavilion.

Shoppers waded through Booths stocked with holiday crafts, quilts, books, apple butter and homemade pie DURING the sale's first day of operation.

Luella Unruh, advertising chair, said the sale is a Fundraiser for the Relief Program The Mennonite Church is Involved in.

"(Proceeds go) Where They are most needed," Unruh said. "Last year, Gave me a good Portion to the Haiti Disaster. There are Many relief sales in the United States and Canada and it's all sent to Akron, Pa.., And it's cents Where Most Needed. "

Friday evening there was a smoked-pork-I created a dinner, a church music group and Performed quilts and crafts were auctioned off to the Highest bidders.

There Will Be a $ 5 pancake and sausage breakfast 7-9:30 am today. All Booths open at 8 a.m.

Craft and quilt auctions begin at 9 a.m. and 11:30 am, respectively, and at noon, the People's Choice Quilt will be auctioned.

One of the Booths That Will Be Open at The Today's sale is Ten Thousand Villages, an Organization That Sells crafts from Third-world countries.

Such items as basketry, pottery and jewelry are for sale from countries in Africa and Other countries like Vietnam and Bangladesh.

"Basically, what Ten Thousand Villages does is They go to Each Country, They kind of go around, find These Craftsman and see if it's something That Could get marketed in the states or in Canada," said Tim Jack, the WHO was working at the Ten Thousand Villages booth on Friday. "Determine how much they'll they'll be Able Thurs sell, they'll place an order with that artisan, they'll pay half the money right up front so That They CAN Afford Thurs hire whoever They Need, They get all the materials, whatever They need to do.

"Then," when Ten Thousand Villages takes takes delivery or shipment in That Country, They Do not wait for it to get back over here, They Go Ahead and Pay Them on the other half of the money. "

Jack said Ten Thousand Villages has Been A Long Time Participant in the Mennonite sale.
