TWEED astronomers, Prepare for a lunar event Not seen in two years.
About 7pm tomorrow Australia's East Coast will experience the final stages of a total lunar eclipse as the moon rises over the Pacific Ocean complete with an eerie, copperish glow.
Noeleen Tweed Loundes from the Southern Astronomical Society said the sky was tipped To Be Beautiful That Night and, as it was the first total lunar eclipse since 2008, Should people get outside and enjoy.
"Because the eclipse is Nearly Over by the time the moon is rising here in Australia, people will only see a darkening near the limb of the moon," Ms. Loundes said.
"Mind you, a full moon rising over the ocean is still spectacular and it's just going to be a nice, gentle sight."
Writer and publicist for the Australian Science Magazine, David Reneke said lunar eclipses are one of the most spectacular sights and Astronomical tomorrow's Would Be a 'one Not to be missed. "
"Over the next hour or so, the moon will start Thurs change color and people will see an amazing sight."
They said DURING the eclipse's progression on the moon's appearance Would take on a reddish glow.
"In Fact, the moon CAN take on a range of colors; anywhere from dark brown and red Thurs bright orange and yellow.
"The exact appearance depends on how much dust and clouds are Present in the upper atmosphere.
"The fully Eclipsed Moon Will not Be totally dark, and that's what Makes totality delightful."
Lunar eclipses, unlike solar, are safe to watch Directly and Telescopes Are Not required, though May Observers like to use binoculars for a Closer view.
