DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - In an Attempt Thurs Avoid Any Possible Conflicts with scheduling an expanded NFL schedule in 2012, next season's Daytona 500 Will Be Moved Back Until late February.
The 2011 Daytona 500 is now Scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 26. NASCAR and Daytona International Speedway Officials Announced The Change Prior Thurs Sunday's race.
"This move shortens the racing season by one week, Which is something the teams and Competitors Will Surely Enjoy," speedway president Joie Chitwood III said.
"It (also) eliminates the off-weekend Typically Scheduled in March, Which Many fans and media partners have said created a drop in momentum in the early part of the racing season."
The NFL has Been considering an expansion, with 18 games on the regular-season schedule, as early as 2012. Such a move nudged put the Super Bowl on the weekends "when the Shootout and the Daytona 500 Have Been Held.
The dates of the Daytona International Speedway's Other racing events That are part of Speedweeks, in Addition to the motorcycle events in March, Will Be Determined Soon.
