Houston Elects First Gay Mayor In Annise Parker


Houston Residents, for the first time voted for an openly gay mayor and it shows that people's mindset about the gay community is changing. Gay people all over the country, now, can hope to get social acceptance from their fellow Countryman as one of the largest cities of the United States have voted for a lesbian woman. Annise Parker, the new mayor of Texas has not only confirmed about her sexual orientation but also had actively worked as a gay right advocates. According to the reports, the new mayor [in the 1980s], started her career as gay advocates and the result of the election shows that she has been successful to a great extent, in terms of bringing about a positive change.

Though Annise Parker never tried to conceal her sexual orientation from people, she did not use it as a campaign tool and focused more on the city's finance during her election campaign. The outcome of the election shows that her campaigns were successful and the voters have complete faith is her. Annise Parker, who has received 53.6 percent vote to get elected as the first officially gay mayor of the state is expected Thurs prove her worth and serve the region in a better manner.

Gene Locke, the other contestant in the race has congratulated Annise Parker after she won the race. Houston's people electing an openly gay mayor has set an example for the entire nation to follow. The gay community has another reason for celebration, as John. A, Perez has become the first gay speaker after receiving Majority votes in the California Assembly.
