NH Man on Jamaican Flight Known for Calm in Crisis


Keene, NH (AP) - A colleague of a Keene, NH, man who survived a flight that skidded off a runway in Jamaica says they Likely put his counseling skills to work in the crisis.

Gary Wehrwein and his wife were headed for vacation Thurs Jamaica Tuesday night when American Airlines Flight 331 over shot the runway in Kingston, injuring more than 40 of the 154 people aboard.

Wehrwein is an ordained minister and licensed pastoral psychotherapist who helped found the MAPS Counseling Services in Keene. Executive Director Gary Barnes says Wehrein also served as a Chaplain for a local hospice program for many years.

Wehrwein says they would have been quick to help his fellow passengers and calm in a crisis.
