An Early Morning Drive Turned into a desperate Struggle of survival Wednesday on a Raging, fast-rising creek Swept-three vehicles Carrying 11 young people off a road northeast Polk County.
All but one person managed Thurs grab hold of trees and logs and pull Themselves Thurs safety.
Authorities Said 16-year-old Jessica Nichole Webb, of Altoona at last. Her body was found in Mud Creek, about a tenth of a mile downstream from where the vehicles were washed off the road near 54th Avenue Northeast and Northeast 80th Street, east of Altoona.
Brandon Turner, 20, of Des Moines, a Passenger in one of the vehicles, Said They Did not Realize the danger at first.
"We were on the road and me just hit the water and started spinning," Turner said. "I was like, 'Everybody calm down. Roll down the windows. "I did not think That it was bad. Then suddenly started spinning me and hit me Jessie's car and went under They And that like sucked us under. "
Turner Said It Took only about 10 to 15 seconds for the vehicle who was in to be Submerged in the Raging creek.
"I was out of breath," he said. "I was underwater. I was just Trying to get to the top. "
The Polk County Sheriff's Office Received a Frantic 911 call at about 4:13 am Wednesday.
