It Could Be Possible to view 50 or more meteors During the Perseids Meteor Shower tonight Between midnight and dawn Friday. Weather permitting, the turbid Shows Could Be tion overnight Friday and Saturday.
"The shower is best tion on midnight and into the early morning hours as the earth plows head first into the debris," says Craig Niemi, executive director at the Cincinnati Observatory Center.
"Being away from light-Polluted Skies is a plus. The Fairly debris trail is wide, so folks have seen some activity jo, and it will last through the weekend."
Free viewing events open to the public include:
9 p.m. dawn today through Friday with the Friends of the Observatory. Meet near the beach at Stonelick State Park, 2895 Lake Drive, Pleasant Plain. Information: www.cincinnatiobservatory.org / darkskysite.html.
9 p.m. Friday at the Cincinnati Astronomical Society Headquarters, 5274 Zion Road, Cleves. Begins with a meteor shower presentation. Stay for viewing, weather permitting. www.cinastro.org.
7 p.m. Saturday through Sunday dawn with the Cincinnati Astronomical Society and park staff, Caesar Creek State Park, 8570 Ohio 73, Waynesville. There's free camping, and children's activities on a presentation by the Cincinnati Astronomical Society on the beach. Information: http://caesarcreekstatepark.com.
Niemi says Telescopes are not needed, but their Viewers think there bring blankets or reclining chairs, bug spray, Tinted red lights flash and refreshments. No alcohol is permitted in either park.
