Shaquille O'Neal may have had a good reason to not wanting to play basketball overseas this season. Lalate.com has reported that Shaq is possibly engaged to Hoopz, aka Nicole Alexander. The former relaity show star has parlayed her fame into a possible marriage with one of sports biggest figures.
According to the Lalate report, Sam David, owner of Sahara Mediterranean Cuisine, claimed that Shaq went down on his knee in the middle of the dance floor and proposed to Alexander. The ring was put on her finger, and the couple appeared to become engaged.
Shaq and Hoopz have not confirmed the report, but there have been reports that the two had been spending a lot of time together in the past couple of months. When Shaq arrived on Monday, David claims only a few people were in the establishment, but within a short period of time, the place was packed.
The Boston Celtics signed O'Neal last month to a deal that will pay the future Hall of Fame center less than what he could have made elsewhere. O'Neal understands, however, that there is only a small window left for him to win another title and match Kobe Bryant with five championships.
The Celtics' betting odds had slipped a little after the Miami Heat signed LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh. The heat have been installed as the betting favorites to not only win the East, but to also win the NBA championship. Boston is the third choice in the East behind Miami and Orlando.
Last season, the Celtics made a surprising run through the Eastern Conference playoffs. They defeated Orlando and Cleveland without having home court advantage, and came within one half of defeating the Lakers in the finals. Some analysts believe that the Celtics would have won the title if starting center Kendrick Perkins was not forced to miss game seven with an injury.
