Edmonton - First time carving a pumpkin? No sweat. "It Can Be Really, Really Easy," says Ritchie Velthuis, a local Sculptor and master pumpkin carver. "There's lots of tools out there That (Novices) CAN access. The Internet is a perfect example. There's tons and tons of patterns That They CAN use."
Velthuis, whose first art competition was a pumpkin-carving One That they won handily in Grade 8, once carved a bust of Mayor Stephen Mandel from the big orange gourd.
They Estimates That he's scored about 100 Pumpkins since they first started carving inline as a child. "Do not Be Afraid," advises them. "I Think That pumpkin-carving is Probably one of the first carving artforms That people do."
Velthuis, the WHO is an award-winning ice and snow carver Teaches and figurative sculpture at the City Arts Centre will be showing off his skills Sunday at the Muttart Conservatory's annual Pumpkins and Pirates event, M jack-o'-lanterns by Members of the Sculptors' Association of Alberta will be a display from 1 to 4 pm
"We Get Some wild Pumpkins," said Muttart events co-ordinator Leslie Fulks. "Very imaginative, very Detailed. Things You Would not see anywhere else."
