WASHINGTON - The U.S. Supreme Court is today, Thurs Scheduled hear oral arguments in an emotional case Concerning a small Kansas church Known for protesting at the funerals of slain American Service Members, Including a 2005 funeral in Marblehead, Mass.., For Army Staff Sergeant Christopher Piper .

The picketers, from Westboro Baptist Church, Founded by Pastor Fred Phelps, travel the nation Thurs assert That U.S. military deaths are God's retribution for America's sins, Including tolerance for Homosexuality.

"Of all the unpopular speech that's ever Been uttered in America, ours is the most unpopular," Margie Phelps, a Westboro Baptist Church member and a daughter of Fred Phelps, Told The Boston Globe in an interview in August.

The case Pits free speech rights against the rights of Families Thurs Practice Their Religion and Their Loved Ones bury in peace. At issue is Whether the Phelpses Can be Sued for Damages for emotional distress intentionally Causing with Their provocative Demonstrations.
