Editor & Publisher, 108 years for the trade publication of the trade publication, is being closed by Nielsen Business Media. So is Nielsen's 76-year-old pre-publication book-review service Kirkus Reviews.
E & P had merged with other pub-business magazines over the years and remained well-regarded, and still grace Kirkus blurbs new books, but Nielsen could not unload them in its recent fire sale of properties. (Adweek, Brandweek, Mediaweek, The Clio Awards Ad prize franchise, Backstage, Billboard, Film Journal International and The Hollywood Reporter were all picked up by a joint venture called e5 Global Media Holdings, LLC.)
In another ominous sign for the beleaguered industry, the American Journalism Review is going from Bimonthly Quarterly Thurs.
"If the media industry is the Titanic sinking," says Joshua Kagi, "E & P Must Be Going Under the part where the ship breaks in two."
